Inside Line Promotions – KOKOMO, Ind. (May 25, 2021) – Greg Wilson highlighted a four-race weekend with the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday when he posted a 15th-place result at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind.
It was the third race of the weekend in Indiana, where Wilson and his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics were hampered in qualifying.
“Qualifying is the most important part of the night,” he said. “We dug ourselves such a big hole early in the night. When you’re racing with that level of competition it’s hard to dig yourselves out even for a respectable finish.”
Wilson timed in 21st quickest on both Thursday and Friday at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis. He made it directly into the feature on Thursday thanks to a fifth-place finish in a heat race before advancing from 20th to 16th in the main event. Wilson was seventh in a heat race and fourth in the B Main on Friday before he pulled in early in the feature in an effort to save his equipment.
“They did a hell of a job at Circle City,” he said. “It’s an awesome facility. As hard as they were working if you give that place some time it will be one of the coolest bullrings in the country.”
Although Wilson qualified 30th quickest at Gas City I-69 Speedway on Friday, he made up for it in a heat race by charging from seventh to third. Wilson then gained a spot in the feature to finish 15th.
“I changed the way I had my race car in an effort to be better and to try something for qualifying,” he said. “It made it worse. I felt like I was running a good lap, then I pulled a wheelie off the curb on a lap that was going to be halfway okay and you’re in trouble. We made progress in the heat, but were mediocre in the feature. I was more frustrated at Gas City than anywhere else because we weren’t good enough to pass cars.”
The All Star Indiana Invasion presented by the Rayce Rudeen Foundation weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway. Wilson was 38th in qualifying and struggled to make headway in the heat race before he hustled from 19th to 10th in the B Main. While it didn’t garner a transfer into the main event, it was a step in the right direction.
“I changed a bunch of stuff for the B Main,” he said. “We passed a lot of cars. That was a pretty good move in a 12-lap race, but it still doesn’t get you where you want to be.”
The racing plan for this weekend is up in the air as Wilson plots his next strategic move as well as looks at the weather.
